Course Description: In Jesus Stories, young Bible students will interact with stories from the life and teachings of Jesus. They will become familiar with key narratives, and learn age-appropriate lessons about the example that we have in God’s son and what it means to follow him.

Course Description: This course will explore age-appropriate Social-Emotional Learning concepts in relation to the everyday life of a student. We will look through the lens of scripture to guide our journeys. Students will learn to identify and articulate strong emotions, and learn processes to manage those emotions.

Workshop DIY
Academic Discipline: Creative Arts
Course Description: "Workshop: DIY" is all about learning to "do it yourself". Students will practice valuable fine motor skills that will set them up for success in other classes such as properly using scissors. All projects will be ones that students could duplicate mostly on their own with common materials.

The Book of Exodus - Part 1
Academic Discipline: Creative Arts
Course Description: In this dynamic Bible course young students will be introduced to a foundational narrative for God’s people: the Exodus of Israel. Students will learn about the heroic women in the opening chapters of Exodus, who worked together to preserve the life of the prophet Moses. They will become familiar with how God formed Moses throughout his upbringing, preparing him to lead the people of Israel out of bondage and into a covenant relationship with Him.

Course Description: This course equips students with the social- emotional skills needed to build and maintain friendships. They will learn such skills as active listening, how to take other’s perspective, and how to work through inevitable conflicts that arise in relationships.

All About Poetry
Academic Discipline: Creative Arts
Course Description: What makes a poem a poem? This question will be explored as we traverse breadth and depths of a poem. Through exposure to good poetry, your student will enjoy reading various kinds of short verse, while analyzing mood, rhyme, and imagery. With relatable subject matter, the students will connect with the author and his/her purpose for writing the poem. Additionally, we’ll spend some time learning about figures of speech, such as similes, metaphors, personification, hyperbole, and alliteration. Ending our poetry unit, we'll make a poetry booklet of our own original poetry.

Kids in the Garden
Academic Discipline: STEM
Course Description: This short course will get the kids outside right away, learning about soil, the life cycle of a plant, and basic nutrition! Students will plant fall vegetables and even learn a few new recipes to try out when their veggies are ready. Join us as your kids get to dig in the dirt, learn about worms, and feel the excitement of eating food they’ve grown.

Academic Discipline: STEM
Course Description: In this STEM course, students will be introduced to common coding vocabulary including sequences, loops, debug, and conditional statements. They will explore these elements of coding with hands-on activities which will help them grasp the concept before moving onto a digital format. Subtraction will also be a key component in this course, with explicit instruction as well as incorporated into coding activities. Students will learn to subtract 2-digit numbers using manipulatives, expanded form, and the standard algorithm.
Ages: 6-7 yrs
Prerequisites: To succeed in this course students will need to be comfortable with single digit subtraction and place value to the hundreds position.

Factoring & Fermented Foods
Academic Discipline: STEM
Course Description: This STEM class integrates factoring skills with a nutritional focus on fermenting foods. Students will learn the nutritional benefits of fermented foods on gut health and how to make various fermented foods at home. They will work with fermented food recipes to utilize factoring.

Eco-Citizens
Academic Discipline: STEM
Course Description: This STEM class combines the study of ecosystems with various math topics while incorporating a biblical lens on how humans are charged as children of God to take care of their world. The math concepts in this course include understanding positive and negative numbers in the context of elevation and temperature, graphing points on a coordinate plane, and a review of basic division.
Ages: 10-12 years
Prerequisites: To succeed in this course students will need to be comfortable with multi-digit subtraction, confidently using a ruler, and have an understanding of basic division.

The Scientific Method
Academic Discipline: STEM
Course Description: In this STEM class, students will learn the steps of the scientific method: ask a question, research, hypothesis, procedure, data, observation, analysis, and conclusion. They will complete an experiment by walking through each of these steps while incorporating division within the data phase.

Language Arts
“My Side of the Mountain” by Jean Craighead George
Academic Discipline: Language Arts
Course Description: This classic novel features an eleven year old boy named Sam, who settles into a life of solitude in the Catskills Mountains of New York. Many text-to-text and text-to-world connections are made as the student constructs a T-chart and Venn Diagrams connecting information to their own lives. Biblical themes covered are the Exodus narrative, comparing and contrasting the Israelites to Sam's journey in the wilderness. Other important themes that arise from the story are endurance and choosing joy in trials.
As an extension unit, we’ll write a research paper on one of the animals mentioned in the novel. The student will walk through the entire writing process: prewriting, rough draft, editing, and final draft. To accompany this five paragraph essay, the student will design a 5 slide keynote presentation of their research topic.

“The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip” by George Saunders
Academic Discipline: Language Arts
Course Description: In the novel, “The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip,” the protagonist Capable spends her days brushing gappers off the backs of her goats. The family’s livelihood depends on the sale of goat’s milk. Rather than the gappers spreading out all over town, they decide to descend on Capable’s yard, rendering her helpless. The challenge of loving your neighbor brings about real character conflict, both internal and external. The characterization is rich in thoughts, speech, and action as our protagonist exhibits all the best qualities and normative struggles in a human. Alongside reading the book, we will work to enhance comprehension and do several writing assignments that accompany the theme of the book. As an added bonus, your student will get some review with parts of speech: adjectives and adverbs.
